Saudi princess charged in O.C. human trafficking case

It's sad but true: here in this country, people are being brought, sold, and smuggled like modern-day slaves. This happens all the time; immigrants are promised a better life, but when they arrive they realize they've gotten tricked and there's no way out.

Irvine comes off as a safe city to live in and knowing that trafficking happens there is flabbergasting."Saudi princess Meshael Alayban is accused of forcing a Kenyan woman to work as a domestic servant in Irvine. She allegedly made the woman work 16 hours a day, seven days a week, for $220 a month."(Los Angles Times) I'm not supporting her whatsoever, but I would like to point out there was no physical abuse or physical restraint. What really confuses me is the fact that she's a princess; shouldn't she be able to afford housekeeping? I have no right to assume this, but a judge has ordered she be held for $5 million. Which makes me believe she must be made out of money. Also, she's a princess; brought up in a very luxurious lifestyle. I would propose that she liked seeing them in pain, but that wasn't the case because she never abused them. The only complaints were about hours worked and wages paid.

Furthermore, the article ends with," Detectives were trying to retrieve the documents from a safe deposit box." In my opinion, the article didn't conclude properly . I'm not content in the way it ended. I believe this could be revised  and concluded in a better and proper way.

  1. I really enjoyed your commentary because you did a nice job on what the article were talking about and how you were unbiased for both the Saudi princess and the domestic servant. However, it was surprising that the Saudi Princess used her wealth and powers to force a Kenyan woman to work as a domestic servant in Irvine. Furthermore, I do agree that the actual article’s conclusion were a bit awkward. You did a great job finding the mistake and your commentary from this article was excellent.

  2. I agree with your point that as princess, she could have afforded different sources of help. However, I also agree that that is just an assumption. Although I agree with your point of how there should've been different sources of help, I feel that even though she didn't abuse the women physically, they probably were emotionally damaged. I do agree that the article itself had ended quite abruptly without a proper conclusion. You did a great job pointing that out. Overall I do agree with most of your commentary. I think you did a great job.
