Goldberg: Inhospitable Earth -- compared to what?

Jonah Goldberg, here mentions that although environmentalists claim that the earth is becoming inhospitable, the people that occupy this planet has never been better off than they are now. Although the planet itself is in bad condition with global warning, higher levels of acidity in the seawater, and the pollution, the people that consume the planets resources are striving and prospering. This prosperity is in terms of food and sanitation. He presented the facts of how regardless of the population growth; the number of global poverty has dropped down a substantial amount. In less urbanized areas, they are finally gaining access to clean source of water. According to Jonah Goldberg," the production of a given crop requires 65% less land than it did in 1961." Which offers more food for the world to consume and less starvation, but we have improved dramatically over the years in many departments such as health care and technology.

In many unique ways, the world is becoming better, society wise. However, we many not overlook the fact that the condition of the planet in which we reside in is progressively decaying with our consumption of its resources. 

Regardless of the state that the planet is in, the population that encompasses the area is noticing an improvement as there is an increase in urbanization around the globe. Although we harm the planet with out pollution and acidic input into the ocean,as a society, we are helping each other build and grow. Society wise, we are definitely far from being hospitable. 

California hospital workers get training in surviving shootings

From 2000 to 2011 there have been 90 shootings just at hospitals. This shouldn't be happening in hospitals. Even nowadays  hospitals aren't safe ;which is pretty ironic since the purpose of a hospital is to help your medical needs. This is a huge issue and officials are trying their best to make the situation safer to handle. Therefore, faculty members are being trained in workshops. "...the slaying of a urologist in his exam room in Newport Beach by a patient apparently angry over side effects from a recent surgery."(Tina Susman) Not only are the victims being assaulted by criminals but its happening within the hospital patients as well. If this can happen, then anything could happen and we need to take extra precautions to make sure it doesn't. I would propose a different solution; either  better and stronger  security to secure the premises and also be able to handle situations like shootings a lot faster because one of the main reasons that they're training faculty members is because by the time help arrives the damage has already been done. Also letting certain staff members based on their ranking carry guns with them in case of an emergency since this is becoming a more frequent case and the safety of others are put in harms way. It is legal to bare arms; they would just have to take extra measures of safety because patients that are acting upon drugs could be a threat to them. Teaching more and more people about self defense is important especially since there are some messed up people in this world.  Shootings shouldn't even be happening in the first place ; especially hospitals. It gives the criminal a very big advantage to hurt people who are injured.

It's sad but true: here in this country, people are being brought, sold, and smuggled like modern-day slaves. This happens all the time; immigrants are promised a better life, but when they arrive they realize they've gotten tricked and there's no way out.

Irvine comes off as a safe city to live in and knowing that trafficking happens there is flabbergasting."Saudi princess Meshael Alayban is accused of forcing a Kenyan woman to work as a domestic servant in Irvine. She allegedly made the woman work 16 hours a day, seven days a week, for $220 a month."(Los Angles Times) I'm not supporting her whatsoever, but I would like to point out there was no physical abuse or physical restraint. What really confuses me is the fact that she's a princess; shouldn't she be able to afford housekeeping? I have no right to assume this, but a judge has ordered she be held for $5 million. Which makes me believe she must be made out of money. Also, she's a princess; brought up in a very luxurious lifestyle. I would propose that she liked seeing them in pain, but that wasn't the case because she never abused them. The only complaints were about hours worked and wages paid.

Furthermore, the article ends with," Detectives were trying to retrieve the documents from a safe deposit box." In my opinion, the article didn't conclude properly . I'm not content in the way it ended. I believe this could be revised  and concluded in a better and proper way.

L.A. County supervisor raises alarm about release of serial rapist

While most of us are sleeping in the safety of our homes; Christopher Evans Hubbart has been busy earning his position as a sex offender. Every two minutes, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted. This is a very serious crime that shouldn't be taken lightly. Not only does the rapist suffer from the consequences but the victim also has to suffer through not only physical but also physiological effects. One of the most common psychological consequences of rape is self-blame. Christopher Evans Hubbart has forced forty human beings into this unnecessary void of pain.

"Hubbart was first arrested on rape charges in Los Angles in 1972 and has since admitted sexually assaulting 25 women in the area, according to a 2004 U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision. After his release in 1979, Hubbart moved to the Bay Area and raped an additional 15 women within two years, the court said. He was imprisoned again and released on parole in 1990."( Jack Leonard) Educated with all this information Los Angles County Supervisor, Mike Antonovich ,would still like to release Hubbart without parole. Hubbart hasn't learned anything while he served time. The second he got released from prison he ventured out and repeated the same mistakes over again; not only once, but multiple times. He doesn't deserve to be released if he's going to repeat himself. He's had numerous amount of chances to turn his path around, but decided not to change his ways. Even if they released him under strict supervision, there's always loop holes. If he decides to live the lifestyle of a sex offender; they can't do anything about it. It's better if he's locked up than given the chance to ruin anyone else's life.
